    3 Button Sports Coat Conversion

I am about to embark on my first Sports Coat conversion adventure, but i've already hit a speed bump. The coat I am looking to convert is a 3 Button Black sports coat. Here's the bump will I be able to get a decent looking day coat from this 3 button jacket without removing any buttons, or should I take one off. Can anyone help ?

I would recommend taking one off, but that depends on exactly where the buttons are. I seems unlikely that you can get a good sporran cutaway without removing the bottom button.

    Be well,

I figured that last button had to go. I will try to post a pic of the beginning and end.

Is it charcoal grey or is it black? Panache would be the one to ask to be sure, but my impression is that black is not for day wear in general. I think grey is ok though.

You're going to have to move the pocket flaps up a bit when you do the cutaway.

Something I did not do in my jacket conversions, but that is helpful when making a kilt jacket, is to add side vents/slits, for better ease over the hips.

This jacket looks like it will convert well. I look forward to seeing your progress!

    Be well,

This coat is black I do have a 2 Button charcoal grey one but was told ( by my girlfriend ) that the grey would not go well with the Blackwatch. She is Irish, so if anyone else has an opinion I would greatly appreciate it.

The Irish bit was just a poke at her, I love Irish people so no hate mail please lol

Not being a great abstract thinker (too many pub nights in my past) I'd take the jacket with you and go try on a coat in the style you're looking for. Then compare the two to let you know how much of a cut away you'll need to make and if the buttons need to be moved or removed.

I responded yesterday, but my post didn't post!

That lowest button is above the pocket so it looks like it will be high enough to just leave it on.

I think a black jacket looks great as day wear with a dark tartan and if your girlfriend thinks it looks better than the grey, I would defer to her.

However, a charcoal jacket would also look pretty good in my opinion.

I would say as to colour that you should stay away from Black for day wear, unless you are going to a formal event of some sort. The danger here is that a Prince Charlie should not be worn before 6:00. I think perhaps you should look at the 1 kilt 10 looks thread here. You will notice that we both only wear Black at the upper side of the scale, a Charcoal Tweed for example will to my mind work much better for many more events and be far more versatile.

I will actually be wearing this jacket after 6pm for lodge meetings. Will that be a problem being thats its black and going to be of the day jacket variation?
