A FANTASTIC deal on regimental Black Watch fabric surplus
Hey Gang-
Just a heads up for all of you who want to pick up some really excellent tartan fabric. One of the contractors that made kilts for the Black Watch is auctioning off the material since its not being used anymore. I just bought a bunch, but there is TONS left over. This surely wont last at these prices (13.50£ per DW meter!!) Here's the link-

Since this is 56" wide, only 4 yards would be needed for a kilt, correct?

Thanks for the link! I just bought 4 meters! It will be a little while until I get around to making the kilt but that was such a great price I couldn't pass it up!
And yes, Woodsheal, since it is double wide fabric and a yard is just a little less than a meter, 4 meters should be enough to make a nice kilt (depending on your waste size).

Here's something you all may want to consider. As mentioned by ForresterModern, the House of Edgar is one of two weavers who offer regimental weight cloth. (The other is Robert Noble.) The House of Edgar sells it in double-width and single width. This 'single-width' however, is not like the actual single offered in their other ranges; it is really the double-width cut in half lengthwise. This is because, according to their in-house kiltmakers, "it is too thick to make a good join." I myself have always ordered the "single-width" whenever I've used this weight simply because I don't like making a join if I don't have to. So, I've never bothered to try to join it.
Maybe some other kiltmakers have successfully joined this fabric? Please chime in.

Very interesting point !
I had figured to use my 7 yds as: 4 yds --> kilt; 2 yds--> araisaid for the lady; 1yd for a fly
I may have to reconsider: 7yds of "single width" for a kilt and use the second to make a kilt for my twin brother\

That would be correct Woodsheal. I'm hoping there is a bit left (2 or 3 yards or so) come next Thursday.
I have always tempered my killing with respect for the game pursued. I see the animal not only as a target but as a living creature with more freedom than I will ever have. I take that life if I can, with regret as well as joy, and with the sure knowledge that nature's ways of fang and claw or exposure and starvation are a far crueler fate than I bestow. - Fred Bear

Just pulled the trigger on 5 meters myself. Watchout if you are here in the States, as shipping is close to $30, so remember to figure that into your calculations on price overall.
4m ought to be enough for myself to get a kilt made, and the fifth should do nicely for my son to get one that fits again.
Thanks for the heads up Josh.
