    Remembrance Sunday Parade in Hawick

This morning's Remembrance Parade passes along Victoria Road, led by members of Hawick Pipe Band. Note the wee piper. Members of the Hawick Pipe Band wear kilts in the Hawick tartan. There is also a guest piper in the front row, wearing a mainly grey tartan which I did not instantly recognise. Maybe one of our experts can help with a tartan I.D.

Drummers, note also the wee drummer.

The band was followed by the two Standard Bearers and the town's two Halberdiers, wearing their brown uniforms.

    Portrait of an old soldier.
Tartan trews were a popular choice for the ex-servicemen who took part on the parade. Tartan trews have always been more popular than kilts for formal wear here in the south of Scotland and I saw countless men wearing tartan trews and only one kilt wearer apart from the bands, among the marchers.

Behind the ex-servicemen, the local Army Cadets marched, followed by youngsters from Hawick High School.

I wore my Royal Air Force kilt in honour of my late father. After the parade had set off for their open air service at the War Memorial in Wilton Lodge Park, I attended the remembrance service in St. Mary's Church.
    More to follow shortly.

Church was out in time for me to catch the parade again on their way back from their open air service to the Town Hall where they would take the salute and fall out.

The band lead the parade up the slope from Sandbed to Tower Knowe

    More tartan trews

One lone kilted ex-servicemen among many wearing tartan trews.

Nice photos Alex. We should never forget the sacrifices that were made by those answered the call.

As it is Remembrance Day in the UK I tried to find some media coverage of the service at the Cenotaph but could not find anything that could be received over here. Likewise the British Legions Festival of remembrance last night. So your post is all I have seen from the UK.

    Thank you very much.

    The Remembrance

They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning,
    We will remember them

BBC.co.uk carried the service from the Cenotaph live online. I was up at
    0545h EST to watch it.

I wish I had known that. I searched the BBC website and could only find the service at the Cenotaph on BBC television which they said was not available here online

Next time I want to see or listen to something from the UK I will look for it a few days early, then if I can't find it I can ask on the forum for advice.

    Thanks for letting me know.

Thanks again for the photo's Alex.

Thanks for the excellent photos, Alex. The clear sky perfect matches you Air Force tartan. It's good to see the veterans in the parade; the older ones always seem most determined to attend. That's a very stern looking sergeant leading his cadets and there appear to be several young lassies in the ranks.
