My new kilt!
Hello everyone,
I just got the kilt I ordered from scotweb.co.uk and I must say that their turnaround time was exceptional.
I ordered it on the 18th of October and got it yesterday
Please excuse the bad quality of the picture but it was taken on my mobile phone!

The Tartan is Coburg modern.
There will be better pictures to follow after my big day next year ;)

Good tartan choice -- one rarely sees the Coburg tartan these days!
It's the same sett as Graham of Mentieth, but with purple in place of blue. This is also one of the tartans recommended for those of German heritage.
I really hope that when you get some clearer pictures of your kilt there is some green in there somewhere, though! From the pic you posted it looks all black and purple.
Here's the Coburg from the National Register...

This is taken from the Scotweb site for Coburg. Which matches the kilt exactly - but no green.

Whichever, A good looking kilt never-the-less and quite unique!

Chas

There is a bit of green but not as much as in the picture of the national register.
Here is a link to the description of the material from scotweb: http://www.scotweb.co.uk/tartan/Coburg-Modern/64943
Either way I do like the tartan the way it is

Well, that is certainly different. And a bit surprising, as I know Scotweb uses the Scottish Tartans Authority's International Tartan Index as the basis for their tartan finder. And this does not match what the STA shows for Coburg (which is the same as what is in the National Register).
The original source of the tartan is Wilsons of Bannockburn's 1819 Key Pattern Book. I just referenced my copy of Peter MacDonald's work, The 1819 Key Pattern Book: One Hundred Original Tartans, which is a study of that resource, and his information for the "Cobourg" tartan (Wilsons' No. 150), corresponds with what the STA and National Register show; i.e. the Graham tartan with purple in place of blue.
Not sure where this new version may have come from, but I'm guessing maybe a recording error?

Well this one is listed as "Coburg modern" tartan so shouldnt that indicate that it is a newer version of the original "Coburg" tartan?
I checked other kilt makers as well prior to ordering the kilt and they all showed the same one as scotweb for the tartan.
Either way we do like this design.

Nice looking kilt! The term modern does not reflect a newer version of a tartan but the "standard" coloring, while ancient is a more muted version of colors, as if it were made with the vegetable dyes.
It's interesting how one site lists a tartan in one set of colors and another shows a different set all together.. Reguardless to that, you have a beautiful kilt and it's easy to see why you are so proud of it..
I look forward to seeing more pictures of your kilt.

Thanks!
I will make sure to take many pictures and post them here! (Our big day is on the 15th of May 2010)
So it will be a while before I'll actually get to wear it but the ordered them as early as possible to make sure that we get them on time.

Congratulations on the new kilt.
That is a beautiful tartan.
Wear it proudly!
