Kilted at the TSO Concert?
So tomorrow afternoon I'm going to be attending the Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert here in Greensboro and I'm somewhat inclined to go kilted. I've made a couple of trips to Target kilted and a run or two to the grocery store, but haven't been to a truly public event like this in a kilt. At this point, my wardrobe is still somewhat limited by funding. I'll be wearing the kilt, hose, garter ties and sporran shown in this thread. I do have a less formal sporran belt not shown in those pictures that I'll probably wear with the outfit. I guess I'm looking for suggestions on what to wear above the kilt. I have a black waistcoat I can wear or maybe a sweater, but I don't want to go too over the top. TSO isn't your typical rock concert, so dressing up (to a certain extent, anyway) wouldn't look totally out of place, but even so it's still a concert, and anything involving a tie is probably way too much. Ideas? Concerns?
Thanks!

Personally, I wouldn't wear the sweater to such an event, but thats because I wouldn't want to get too warm.
For a 'sporty-casual' look, if you have a shirt like like this one, I find the go very well with the kilt.
And yea, loose the sporran chain. Either for security reasons or just to prevent the wear and tear on the kilt.

Thanks. I've got a shirt somewhat similar to that in dark brown. I'll try that out this evening and see how it looks. If the brown in the shirt and the hose don't look right together, I may swap the dark hose for a pair of oatmeal hose that I have.

I have attended TSO in a kilt for the past three years. The Dayton show was November 7 this year so the event is now over for me. This year I wore my Irish National Kilt. Last year it was the USAKilt Semi-Traditional American Tradition. I wore a plain color long sleeve shirt. The first year I attended I wore a denim kilt from Union Kilts. It is normally cold in Dayton for the TSO show so I had to wear a coat. The first year it was bitterly cold so I had on a very heavy coat. This year it was warm so I just had a light jacket. As for the look, it was very much like your Avatar picture. As far as I know I was the only one in a kilt. Enjoy the show.

Depends...
really depends on where you seats are. I just worked the TSO concert here in Mpls last weekend. There are a lot of flames and heat near the front 1/3 of the arena. The dancers and singers are hot too :-)
I would say about 1/3 of the audience was dressed up for the show, the rest in casual wear. Fantastic event, enjoy yourself.

I went to see TSO here in Greensboro last year, and I have more or less the same seat I did then. I'm going to be down on the floor, about 20 rows back from the stage. You're right regarding the heat. I remember it being rather toasty at times during the show last year. I'm not so worried about being cold inside as I am when I leave after the show. Looks like it's going to be ~60 tomorrow, so it shouldn't be all that bad. It's also not supposed to rain, which will help.
I looked at that shirt when I went home for lunch, and it's a really dark brown; almost black. It's such a different shade of brown that I may be able to get away with wearing the (relatively) light brown hose after all. I just need to try it out tonight when I have more time.

I first saw TSO back when they were still called Savatage, and I would say that a casual look is deffinately appropriate. Keep in mind that they are a metal band, after all- at least, the Savatage part! (On a side note, as a fan of these guys since Hall Of The Mountain King, I still haven't gotten used to seeing them in tuxedos!) Enjoy the show. I missed them this year. They never make it here before Thanksgiving! I went to see when they were coming and found that they had already been and gone. That's the second show I've missed this year in that way. The first was Dream Theater. Ah well... Such is life.

Alright, I found the shirt I was talking about earlier. I think it looks great with the kilt. The browns in the shirt and hose are different enough that it doesn't look like I tried to match them and I'm color blind. I think I'm leaning toward wearing the oatmeal hose with no garter ties, though. Partly because due to some weird coincidence the hose perfectly match my shoes. Thoughts? Opinions?

EDIT: Yes, I'm aware that my sporran is slightly off-center and that my shoes are untied. I was trying to put the pictures together in a hurry and wasn't really concerned about these things. And no, the cat won't be part of my outfit. He just decided he wanted to be in one of the pictures.

Holy smokes! Someone else besides me remembers Savatage! How old are you anyway?

I guess the question to you.... how do you feel?.. comfortable?... wear it... as for the hose..I like the darker brown, but both pair match the shoes...LOL... personally if you had a button down in a light blue... would look nice.. I am not a fan of the long sleeve t shirt type shirts.. on me.. and its my preference for me..
