Brass button on a PC

Has anyone seen a PC with brass or gold buttons instead of the more common silver ones?

I've seen a few people who have swapped the buttons for brass military buttons when at military balls and they usually have matching brass cantled sporrans etc.
To my eye it looked lovely.

It's not common, but it's done and, as long as the buttons aren't too big (as can be the case with surplus military buttons) it is not an unpleasing effect. Personally, unless I had an iron-clad reason to wear "regimental" or "general service" buttons on a civilian coatee, I would advise against it. Crested, monogrammed, or designer buttons would be another matter altogether.

I did a tux jacket conversion and used gold-tone buttons that have an anchor pattern -- just a commercial type button from fabric store. Here's the thread.

I think historical buttons ( or reproductions) from uniforms no longer in service might be a nice touch, though older buttons are often a little large. The Military College of SC ( aka The Citadel) has great brass uniform buttons featuring the SC state seal. Very similar buttons can be had as blazer buttons from various sources. If you have an affection for or affiliation with some unit, it might be good to see what is available. If not, there are hundreds of anchor / shield buttons around. Like choosing a tartan, it is always a good idea to at least have a story for the inevitable questioner.
