    kilt rental places?

hi all. i posted this over in my "home" forum (bob dunsire) and got a couple replies i am going to look into. however, someone mentioned this forum so i thought i'd pop over here and see what the general consensus was.

so here's the scoop: i am getting married and want my grooms men to be kilted. i already own mine being a piper and i've been around enough to know some people don't care as much as i do about kilt quality and customer service.

anyway, here is the look i am going for overall:

    http://www.kilts-4-u.com/silver-high...fit-p-260.html

unfortunately, this not being scotland, it seems this rental option is few and far between. kiltrentalusa.com seems to have something similar, has anyone dealt with them?

if anyone else has any other ideas or places they have good experiences with please let me know. i will be looking into the suggestions made so far. thanks everyone....

I rented kilts and PC's from the Scottish Tartans Museum. http://giftshop.scottishtartans.org/rent.html Great service and good quality at a reasonable price. Matt Newsome (M.A.C. Newsome) is a member and frequent contributor here.

I see what you're going for and it's the style that's pretty much to my own taste...pretty plain and more of a contemporary thing than the traditional Prince Charlie or even the Argyle.

Finding a rental joint that'll be able to accommodate you will be tough. From what I've seen, all that's available for rental is the traditional stuff. Since you list your location as Chicago, I assume that you've already checked out The Scottish Shop, http://www.thescottishshop.com/ , and found that their selection is the "trad" stuff.

We've had a lot of members who have bought "normal" jackets and converted them to kilt jackets. One that I remember distinctly was a black linen blazer that the member (sorry that I can't remember his name) picked up on overstock.com and shortened up so that he would have a lighter weight black jacket for summer piping jobs.

I'll be interested in how it works out for you and best wishes on your impending nuptials.

    Hello kid icarus,

Firstly, welcome to XMarks from across the Atlantic in Norfolk, England.

Because I live in the UK, I can't recommend a rental agency in the US, but I have one observation.

The style you have chosen is rather dark and somber and looks a bit monochrome for such a happy occasion. Of course, it is your day and you can have anything you want, but I would go up the colour scale a couple of notches.

    Regards

    Chas

Chas, I agree with you but it tends to form a "modern look" at weddings now-a-days. It seems that those who wish to wear traditional attire on their wedding day do so untraditionally, which is fair enough.

I'm not sure about long distance kilt rental, but Graeme at Arizona Kilts is in that business out of Scottsdale, AZ. Think he's a member of this board...??
    http://www.arizonakilts.com/

Previous posts have pretty much confirmed there's no kilt rental in the Chicago area. So guessing you'll be long distance whomever you select.

Here's a place in Easton, MD where we bought kilts, and rented the rest for our wedding:

We sent the sizes and they shipped them out to us. Actually, we went in to buy kilts, but sent in the size for our last minute usher.

Also check out Piper's Cove in Carney NJ. They have a rental program and are nice people and are reliable. If you contact them, tell them Rocky from USA Kilts sent you.

Alternatively, it occurs to me that the kilt you've chosen there is in a tartan similar to the "Nightstalker" tartan sold by Stillwater Kilts. Your groomsmen would end up with their own, albeit synthetic, kilts as a memento of the occasion.

You didn't say when or where you are going to be married. It may well be that you can rent kilts and adapt jackets, depending on time, budget, etc. If you devote a few hours to searching threads here, you may find alternative jacket suggestions, either to buy or rent. Of course, shirts and ties, while convenient to get with the rental, can be bought anywhere, including non-kilt vendors, and hose should not be a problem.

    Congratulations and welcome
