Inspiration
This one was my main inspiration in making my white cockade.

That is one impressive cockade, for sure (as is yours, Rob!). However, the fellow should lose the Dark Ages penannular brooch....

That is an impressive cockade. Robert, are you a member of the Circle of Gentlemen?

So, what exactly is wrong with the brooch? I rather like penannular brooches, and I think that the gentleman is wearing a particularly nice on. I haven't seen many done in silver and with as much depth or thickness as the one he is wearing. The picture is a bit fuzzy, but there is also a hint of some fine metal working.

The problem is that the subject is dressed in ca. 1745 Jacobite garb, and penannular brooches fell out of use in the early Middle Ages....

Why? It's been in the family for ages.
