Marchbrae of Scotland

Has anyone ever had experience ordering from Marchbrae in Scotland? If so, give me your take on them.

Here's my take: I just received, today, a 6 yd., 13 oz. wool in Isle of Skye kilt. OMG, it's beautiful. The price was excellent, and the correspondence was awesome. I was back and forth with them for about three weeks, trying to make up my mind, and they never tired of all my questions.

I needed a 36, but they had just sold the last stock IoS in that size. A few days later, I get an email stating that they have a 38. I asked if it could be reduced to a 36. "Yes" was the reply.

Well, it fits like a top, and they sent it "speedy delivery!" Will I do future business with them? Oh yeah! They were more than accommodating.

Highly recommended!!!!

Yeah. My favourite kilt (IOS) came from them. They are a wonderful company to deal with -- very fast, professional and friendly. Plus, most importantly, their product is very nice quality.

I definitely plan on doing business with them in the future... My only qualm with them is that they INSISTED on sending my kilt via courier service rather than regular post. As a result, not only was shipping more expensive, I paid a bloody fortune in import duties.

I let them know via e-mail that this would probably be a major determining factor for whether I would order from them in the future or not... They responded that they would take my feedback under advisement. I truly do hope that there is some "wiggle room" for shipping with them... It would be a shame to have to go with someone else because of just that issue.

Shipping from them was high, but they did wiggle when I asked for a lower rate. When they send UPS, you'll have it before the week is up. Oh, and I managed to bypass the import duties. Phew!!

Again, I highly recommend this company!!!!!

The good news it that it doesn't often happen with UPS like it does with FEDEX, but occasionally they will expedite the package delivery through customs then bill you for the duties on the backside, usually within a couple weeks of initial delivery. You probably made it through okay, so breathe easy for now, but do not be too surprised if you get a letter or email or even phone call from UPS about duties being due. Fedex did it to me once a year or so ago---I had just gonethrough registering my info with them for one package with duties, then about a month or two later another similar package came through with no obvious duties, and while I was celebrating they were billing me which I found out about 4 days later. Rare but does occasionally happen.

Celebrate your new kilt now, and then in a couple weeks celebrate again wehn you DON'T hear from UPS again about duties. Doubles the fun. Good luck.

Last year I was considering to order a kilt from them, but due to the shipping cost (£30 from UK to DK) I gave it up.
Perhaps I should give them another chance - the first time I tried on a kilt was in a kilt shop in Edinburgh, The Woollen Mill, and it is now merged with or bought by Marchbrae, so I kind of owe them.

I bought my ghillie brogues at the Edinburgh Woollen Mill, (which I believe is connected to Marchbrae) and they were nice to deal with, and the price was excellent, at least 30 pound cheaper than anywhere else (for the same shoe!) I almost didn't check, because I thought the store looked like it would be more expensive... it is a nice looking store, small Highland-wear section out the back. Oh, and I bought a baby kilt there too for a couple of friends' wee one.
