Kilts in today's Arizona Republic
This appeared in the Business Section of today's (Feb 13, 2010) Arizona Republic. I'm well acquainted with this place. Graeme's a good guy. His website is listed in the article sidebar.
Here's the article: Arizona Kilts Article

That's a good article on his business. But I did get a chuckle when he said you only buy one kilt in your life! But then again, we're addicted aren't we?

I also smiled at that line. Interesting POV from a merchant!

Ha! He should have known better. He and Craig "Retro Red" were good friends. The next time I see him, I'll have to kid him about that. But then, he was speaking about the general public, not the addicted. Of course, he does mention Derek Deegan, who I've met.
The print edition has Derek's picture in it with this caption, "Don't be surprised to see Derek Deegan wearing a kilt at work. The non-profit administrator, a native of Ireland, has purchased several kilts over the years from Arizona Kilts in Scottsdale. 'It's what diversity is all about,' he says."
This was really good getting the lead position with picture on the front page of the Business Section of the paper.

Good article Graeme is cool. The comments by the readers were pure juvenile and I suspect that's who posted them...sad.
Doesn't he still post on X Marks too???
Had to be some marketing involved in getting the paper to do the article...that sort of outreach helps the cause.
Understand why the article was limited to traditional kilts since its about his store. Maybe some day the Republic will do an article on the wide variety of kilts around today.

Graeme is a great guy who helped me out greatly when I lived in Phoenix and had a couple ill-fitting kilts. Besides Kiltmart, which is never physically open, his shop is the only one in town. He does nearly exclusively a rental business, although does do special orders and carries a small selection of accessories. Real genuine guy, and his wife is sweet too. Glad to see he got some exposure in the public eye.
It is about time for the Phoenix Games if I remember, like maybe next week. That was my first two years ago, kilted for the first time in public, after Graeme's help getting my rig squared away. Amazing how far you can go in such a short time.
Good for you Graeme.

Good for you Graeme.
There is another operation in town that does not have a good reputation.
The Highland Games will be February 27-28 at the Steele Indian School Park next to the VA Hospital on Central and Indian School.

Interesting---If I remember correctly that should be very close if not right across the street from Kiltmart. That is also the park where the two news choppers went down a couple years ago.
The other operation, beside Kiltmart and Graeme, that I knew of when I was there a couple years ago was a solo piper who basically sold wares out of his house north of town, and from a tent at events, to supplement his piping income. Is that the same one you are thinking of?
I will have to miss it as I am now moved to KY and, even though I still own a home there, do not plan a return to phoenix anytime soon.
