    Clan Maxwell

Just wondering if there are any other members here other than myself who are part of the Clan Maxwell. My great great grandfather was John M Maxwell Sr. born in Ireland, but migrated to the USA in the late 1700's to early 1800's. One of his sons Albert L Maxwell born in Illinois, was my great grandfather, his wife was Katy Korst. Then one of his sons, Anthony Charles Maxwell was my grandfather. He was born in Joliet Illinois, as was my father, Raymond John Maxwell.. I know I still have lots of family in Illinois. Just when or why my grandfather came to Alabama.....I don't know. But they moved to Birmingham, where I was born in 1952, but I am now living in Dothan.

    Kirkland

My mother's family was Kirklands. They are reportdly from the Maxwell clan. I have a cousin that has all the family records all the way to Scotland. I have been trying to reach her for some time. Seems as if she fell off the map

Kirkland translates to "land of churches"

    ClanMaxwell

I have a cousin who traced the family back to Scotland also. I have a copy of the file. I remember reading in it about the Kirkland family. I'll look at it again and get back with you on what I find.

Hello, Cousin! I may be the only other with the surname Maxwell on the forum, but I know there are other associated family members here as well. I took a quick look at our family records, and all of my people are from Dundee, Texas, having migrated west from the Carolinas (mostly North Carolina). I have to count back nine generations to get to my first relative to come to the U.S. from Scotland, who was a James Maxwell, born in 1740.

I happened to make the acquaintance of a Jim Maxwell of Waco, Texas in the not too distant past at a Highland games in Salado, Texas. Jim is the president of the U.S. Maxwell society. You might want to get in touch with him, as I know he's originally from Alabama. PM me if you'd like his email address.

Welcome to the forum... It's a great place to be! REVIRESCO!

I have a 5th great-grandmother, Mary Maxwell whose son, Malcolmb Hart, emigrated to Virginia in 1763 from Renfrewshire.
