    St. Paddy's Day Parade

Saturday was the St. Paddy's Day Parade here in Dallas. Beautiful weather! My friends and I got perhaps a wee too much sun, but still had plenty of fun. The parade wasn't that interesting, but people watching is always amusing. And with two flasks of whisky down the gullet, it's all good times

I was out in my Heritage of Ireland kilt (Gold Brothers, I believe); that is to say, my cheap knockabout. It's sadly starting to show its age (only a year!). Despite that, a bloke said that it was the best he'd seen amongst the crowd (he'd seen three others). After which he promptly asked the question. I told him that information is for ladies only, but his girlfriend was too embarrassed by him to proffer it herself ;)

Two people asked for pictures with me, one suggesting that was why I wore the kilt in the first place. He didn't believe me that I wear my kilts any time I get the chance!

The parade had a couple pipe bands but I couldn't hear them very well. Seems odd to say about bagpipes, eh? They were dressed sharply, though.

The question came up again on Sunday, when I was in my Ferguson Ancient. I'd had brunch with some friends, and we were walking through a very park-like area in my apartment community. Stopped by a pool to sit and chat after feeding ducks in the lake. We discovered the hot tub was heated up! Didn't expect that to happen for a month or so yet. The one woman with us said that it was a shame we weren't otherwise prepared for the hot tub. At the suggestion to hop in anyway, she said, "Well, at least boys have underwear."

She looked at me and blushed and said "Erm, maybe?" Before I could say anything in response, she blushed even redder as she realised she had just confessed her own status. Oops!

No that sounds like a great celebration! Hooray undyless women!

OK... Back to family friendly! My weekend was a good St. Paddy oriented one, as well. My clan had no official presence in the parade this year, due to ... a little falling out our grumpy as heck chief had with the organizers last year, so the St. Andrews Society invited us to join them. A few of us did, but most of us decided to be lazy and just spectate. That would be me, if you didn't already guess. My wife and I hung out with our fellow X Markers for the parade, and then headed to Sgt. Hunters house for our customary after party, where the wonderful Mrs. Hunter serves tons of corned beef and cabbage. We gorged ourselves there (you have to eat as much as you can, as fast as you can before Danny "The Bottomless Pit" shows up to domineer the buffet line!) and then headed to the Baker Street Pub to meet with a couple who were interested in hiring my wedding planning company. That went spectacularly! I think that not only did I get a new client, I could end up being friends with these people! So it seems ol' St Patrick was looking after the X Marks clan this weekend.

    Next St. Pat's weekend story?

You're welcome! Make sure to marinade it in Guinness...

The problem with marinading raw meat in Guinness is that you can't drink it any more!
