    Free Masonry Tartan

Does USA Kilts carry the Free Masonry Tartan? I thought I found it in their wool tank gallery once and now I cannot find it. I was looking for a friend.

    Rocky,

The tartan you show is the tartan of the Grand lodge of Scotland, if I recall correctly. I'm sure it would be fine for any Freemason to wear, but as the OP is from Utah he might be referring to the Universal Freemason tartan as approved by the Grand lodge of Utah, and registered with the Scottish Tartans Authority,in 2004.

While the Grand Lodge of Scotland tartan is predominantly green the Universal tartan is mostly blue.

As a side note, it's interesting that the Utah Grand Lodge calls its tartan "universal" as no Grand Lodge has authority to legislate anything beyond it's own borders. Despite rumors to the contrary, there is no world wide Masonic authority that can control or make decisions for all Grand Lodges. It's hard to have a world wide conspiracy if there's no controlling authority. If such a plot existed I'd have a much better job with a much better income . Unless, of course, I'm of so little consequence I've been left out of the loop !

    Regards,

    Brian

PS - additional searching lead me to the STA site where a note says that Freemasons outside of Scotland need to secure permission to wear this tartan. I know Rocky says he can get it easily, and I take him at his word, but apparently the intent of the tartan was not as a universal one.

Here is a link to an article where a Scottish Freemason explains his view that there can never be a universal tartan for all Freemasons: http://www.grandlodgescotland.com/in...=266&Itemid=29

Thanks for the replies! I have friend that is a member of the Utah Grand Lodge (where I am not) and was asking. I thought that this would be a good place to pose the question. I am not disappointed as always!

I just checked our Scottish Mill sources and we can get the Freemason's Universal tartan as well as the "Grand Lodge" tartan pictured above in my last post.

Here's a picture of the "Freeman's Universal" tartan from the STA's database:

    Rocky,

Would there be any additional costs for this tartan compared to the prices listed on your site? I am considering a semi-traditional in this Tartan.

    Thanks,
