    Bonnet Bashing Jock Scott Style

WhaHooo! My new Robert Mackie balmoral came in yesterday, courtesy of Redshanks [Chris] at Dunadd Trading. My purchase was, of course, inspired by Jock Scott's thread on shaping a bonnet. I dedicate my purchase and this thread to Jock Scott. In a stunning display of my lack of originality, I ordered exactly the same color and configuration. I hereby embark upon my own implementation of Jock's shaping procedure.

First, here it is fresh out of the package:

    Three quarter view:

    Side view:

While I do have a creek at the bottom of my hill, it is part of a public park, and subject to chemical effluent, littering and vandalism by disaffected youth, so discretion being the better part of valor, I determined to use a bucket placed securely in a utility sink:

Bonnet and collection of washed rocks from the creek, ready to go:

    Rocks in place:

    Initial submersion--not enough rocks...

    More rocks, full submersion...

    Happy bonnet...

That's today's part of the effort. Will post more as I go through the succeeding stages. Jock, you may have created a monster...you may be responsible for the summary drowning of scores of bonnets the world over...Thank you so much for your contributions!

Hard on the piper; hard on them all; hard on the world." Butcher's Broom, by Neil Gunn, 1994 Walker & Co, NY, p. 397-8.

Well done so far mate! Yes, I absolutely love my Mackie Balmoral, courtesy of Chris, aka Redshanks. However, I quite liked the look of mine right out of the package and didn't do anything to it...yet. I also ordered mine with the lovat green dicing and plan to order two more: one with lovat blue dicing, and the other with fawn and white dicing like yours. I will definitely order both bonnets from Chris. One more thing, are you a member of the Clan Macpherson Association? If not, you should consider joining. I can set you up with all the right contacts.

@Creagdhubh: Kyle: Several nice folks on the forum have asked me about joining the MacPherson clan association, I just haven't gotten around to printing out the genealogy---is that required? I should get on that...thanks for the kind words!

You got it mate! No, don't worry too much about the genealogy-there is a question on the application form about an applicant's connection with the clan, be it your surname is actually 'Macpherson' or one of the associated family names. Of course, there could be an entirely different connection with the 'sons of the Parson' all together and that is quite alright! Let me know if you are keen and I'll send you in the right direction cousin.

Keep us posted on your new Balmoral!

O.K. Day 2 of Jockin' the Bonnet. Bonnet full of rocks soaked overnight in cold water. This a.m., drained the water, removed bonnet and rocks. Wrung out the bonnet, beat up, abused bonnet like a rented mule. Even trod on it in getting excess moisture out. Put rocks back in the bonnet, and hung it on the fence, out of any direct sunlight for the first drying.

Keep the pictures coming. I got the bug, too, and put mine on order this week with the fine folks at Dunadd. I have no idea how long until delivery, but I'll be jockin' it when it arrives.
