    Hawick Highland Games 2010

Hawick Highland Games take place this year on Sunday 20th June. Those of you who came last year remarked on how few trade stalls were present so this year we will have a Craft Fayre in conjunction with the games. Kilts an More of Dunbar will also be there selling a range of kilts and accessories. For the ladies, Jill from Planet Soaps will be in attendance selling her exquisite range of hand made soaps. There will be a new website:-
    www.hawickhighlandgames.co.uk .
The Haggis Hurling will become a ladies only event for which a new trophy has been purchased, though the Wellie Throwing competition will remain open to all comers. There will be a genealogy exhibition by Rachel Hosker of Hawick Heritage Hub, and we hope also to have a high profile modern celtic band playing in the rugby clubrooms.
There will be a high calibre of contestants from all over Scotland taking part in the heavy events and in the highland dance competitions.
The gates open at 11am on Sunday 20th June, admission £4, concessions £2.
There will be a free bus service between the town centre and the games field at Mansfield Park.
Hawick Pipe Band and Hawick Scout Fellowship Pipe Band will parade along the High Street at 11:45am and from 1pm they will be joined at the games ground by Melrose Pipe Band and Jedburgh Royal British Legion Pipe Band.
Plus of course the usual range of children's entertainments.
    Alex Cunningham, Games Secretary.

SCHIEHALLION have now been booked and will be performing live at Hawick Highland Games.
Funding to enable us to bring this high profile Celtic and Country and Western band to the Hawick Games has been provided by Awards for All Scotland.

As our local rugby ground is being transformed into a Highland Games village for Sunday's games (20th June) I am giving this one a bump.
Being situated in an area which does not have a large population base we are one of the less commercialised games, with the emphasis very much on the traditional games with less in the way of trade stalls and children's funfair rides.
We rely very much on people coming from further afield to watch the Scottish games as there is not sufficient local population to support the large markets and funfairs which subsidise many highland games.
Hope some of you can make it here on Sunday.

You and your commitee did a great job in organising the Games two weeks ago - you were blessed with great weather and it was a great day out. Sadly you did not get the 'buy in ' from the local community but hopefully the Games reputation will build and next year will see an improvement in numbers.
