waistcoats for kilts (tweeds)
Does a waistcoat have to be cut for a kilt? Or will any quality waistcoat look proper with a kilt? I've been thinking of putting together a not so typical solo piping outfit for contests. I have a really nice MacLean of Duart kilt, A lovely brown leather rob roy sporran (alla Artificer). And some lovat green hose.. I was thinking that rather then wearing the typical black waistcoat as most pipers do. A light brown tweed one with some red or green pattern in it would look nice?? Maybe with a crimsony sorta tie.
So do you all think this might work and are there any good north Americian sources for different tweed patterned waistcoats??
Thanks all..

As far as I am aware suit waistcoats are generally shorter with the trousers sitting higher on the waist. If the waistcoat was longer it elongates the body making you look shorter. Having said that I do vrleive that suit waistcoats are a tad longer but not much. So I think you could get away with it.
Beyond that a tweed like that sounds great. Don't forget pics if you get the outfit
