    How It's Made

There's a film crew from the Discovery show "How It's Made" here to film how garbage trucks are made, and that got me thinking...(dangerous, I know)..

The show is always asking for suggestions for future shows, so why don't we all sign up on their website and request that they do an episode on how kilts are made?

It's already been suggested on their website twice, so I don't know if we should add more requests, or just keep rating the existing suggestions so they'll know there's a lot of interest in it.

I know several people here already know how to make kilts, but, personally, I think it would be an interesting show to watch, and might be enlightening to the general public as well.

    What do you think?

Here's another link for the show "How Do They Do It?" Where you can email suggestions.

How it's made already did bag pipes once, so it's not too far of a stretch to think that they might go with kilts... Don't know that I could get them around to the house for a sporran making show, but you never know!

If it was a fully machine made kilt they might go for it. But a traditional hand sewn kilt would not have enough mechanical things to make it interesting enough.

They do non mechanical stuff too...I've seen glass blowing and shaping on there, and other things like that, though you're right, it wouldn't be a super fast high tech method to film.

But,I think they'd do the show if enough people showed interest in it. Thought maybe with all the members here, we might help lean them toward the idea. Use our "clout" so to speak.

Kilts aren't exactly the forefront of engineering technology. Maybe it would be better suited to the History channel.

    Good idea, I'd support it.

Well...they aren't going to do it if only one or two of us make the effort to ask for one. I just thought with the number of members we have here, we'd have a chance of convincing them it'd be worth the effort.

But, if it's too much trouble for us to ask them to film the process, then I guess it really isn't worth the effort.

Lol... This is one of those ideas that start out awesome, but get worse the more you think about it.

At first, I thought: "Hey, yeah! That'd be so cool." But then, I thought about it again and figured... "Hmmm. How boring." Truth be told, there really isn't much interest and excitement in the kilt-making process...

I think IF ANYTHING, people would be much more interested to see how a new tartan design (using thread counts) gets WOVEN into tartan cloth... And perhaps after that you could add on a short segment about how it gets turned into a kilt, complete with sporran...

Now I would find an episode devoted to Harris Tweed interesting.
