Is the kid proficient at throwing the "hawk" yet?
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

As a matter of fact, he gets a kick out of going to black powder events and hussling the 'hawk throwing teachers. He plays dumb, and after a while teaches them his way to do it! He's really good with the 'hawk, the bowie and modern throwing knives.

...and that's awesome! Same thing happened to me at Sycamore Shoals Park, after the Grandfather Mountain Games. We were watching the ranger give a hatchet throwing demonstration. He was a very good speaker, and gave lots of interesting info on the passtime of throwing, but was having trouble getting his 'hawks to stick.
When it came time that he asked for volunteers to try their hand, I said sure, as I'd never really thrown a 'hawk before(thrown many a shuriken, senban, knife, etc... though) and wanted to give it a go. After I took my turn, he had us take this picture(edited to protect the innocent) and send it to him, so the other rangers would believe him:

I pulled a Robin Hood with my two successive throws:

Sounds like your son and I are like-minded!

Now that is impressive! My son did that with his hawk and bowie knife once- by pure accident. The hawk handle was already old and ready to give up the ghost. That bowie was the straw that broke the proverbial cammel's back...

Oh, it's hysterical. One guy wasn't fooled right from the start. He just looked at Raven and said "You've done this a few times, haven't you?"

Definately a working rig
Good look all around-and a functional mix of rivet and lace. Leather should age well, too, given weight...Helluva good idea with the sliding shoulder pad-I have worn a few cross belts, and know what it is like to deal with a narrow strap.
If you ever get rivet-adventurous, look these guys up:

They have unplated steel, brass, and every copper length and head style known. Small quantity friendly service too.
Quiver in the works, I assume?

Nice!! Thanks! Yes, the quiver is in fact in the works. I finished cutting a knotwork border on it last night. I'll be tooling it today. He wants a dragon on it, too, so I'll be prepping the dragon design for transfer. I hope to have it done mid week.
The leather for the belt is 6 oz, the hawk sheath is 3 oz, and the hawk frog is 12 oz armor/saddle weight leather. It's from scrap left over from the bracers that I recently made. Those are posted in another thread if you're interested.
As to the shoulder pad... I don't have one for my basket hilt baldric and wish that I did. There's a special reason that I don't, though. It was made by a good friend of mine, and he passed away before finishing it. I can't match the color that he used and it would stand out.
