Salado Highland Gathering

Come to central Texas, for the Salado Highland Games, November 13-14th, 2010.
I will be there with Clan Keith and I imagine several other xmarker will be there. There will be band competitions, dance competitions, heavy athletics, food and of course the clan tents and vendors.
I will see you there!

It's a shame that they always seem to schedule this for the same weekend as the Highland Fling weekend at the Texas Renaissance Festival. So we have to choose between one or the other. Last year we went to the Salado games. This year, we're going to go to the TRF. Hope y'all have fun, though!

Yeah, had that problem when I lived in Houston. Now that we are in Waco, and I am the convener, we go to Salado.

Yeah it's too bad, because Salado is a really nice event. But I'll be at the Highland Fling / Zardoz' Birthday weekend at Texas Ren Fest this year also.

Where's a good place to stay around there?

Glad you can make it Merlin.
There are 4 hotels in Salado: Holiday Inn Express, Best Western, Super 8 and Stagecoach Inn. I know that Stagecoach is full during the gathering, but have no idea about the others.
If nothing in Salado is open, then Belton is only about 10 miles away, and there are a lot of hotels there.
As to what is good, I don't know. I live about 40 miles from Salado, so I just drive each day.

There are also some nice B&Bs in the area as well. We usually stay at the Rose Mansion... Do a Google search for Salado B&Bs and you'll definitely hit some interesting places.

I will be at the Salado HG as convener for the Clan MacIntyre Association.

BTW, there will be a torch ceremony among the clans on Friday night at Salado. I ave een wanting to do this for some time now, but no other Scottish event can get away with it because of fire laws. Any one else attending or participating?
