    How long is to long

    How long do threads or blogs stay on this site, it's kind of a drag really, you see something or read something, get interested and bam! it's two years old. Dosent any one police the site, get rid of the old stuff make room for some current stuff.
    I have been replying to threads thinking they were new, now I wonder how new is new, I'm new, I should have read the post dates now there are some old salts wondering who is ringing their bell wanting to talk about something thats been dead and gone for a couple years now.

    Thats my suggestion, I could be wrong

    The threads are supposed to be automatically closed after six months of inactivity. Maybe that's been changed?

    I've seen a few very old threads that haven't been closed and others that closed very soon after the last post. Maybe the six month time limit doesn't always work??? And then there are a couple of threads that just won't die. I see the same thing on other forums. I'm not a mod...nor do I want the job The people who watch that stuff are human and (hopefully) have lives outside the forums. They can't catch everything, and of course some are just naturally more vigilant than others.

    Deleting is a mixed bag though as some very good nuggets of info and wisdom can be found in odd places here, though who is qualified to say what is valuable enough to keep? Not me...I'm an information packrat.

    The current setting of the software is;
    Any thread will be closed 180 days after the last post to the thread.

    So yes, we have some two year old threads that are still active and being posted to.

    But if a thread is not posted to for 6 months it will quietly die and be closed.

    We do not ever clear out or delete old threads. We have a record of every thread ever posted to the site. There is a lot of good stuff in the archives. You will not be able to view it though due to storage capacity and bandwidth. But they are still there. It is our history.

    New members and less frequent longer term members will often read a thread that is relevant to them or their inquiry. Unfortunately if the thread is closed there is only one way to address it. The interested reader must start a new thread, and in the meantime figure out how to reference the first, relevant thread without losing anyone reading the newly posted thread.

    Go, have fun, don't work at, make it fun! Kilt them, for they know not, what they wear. Where am I now?
