Shoe possibility
So what is the rabbles' opinion on this shoe? I know ghillies are traditional, but I'd rather spend coin on something that is multi-use, not just when I'm going to be kilted.

My current black shoes are a loafer, and would look odd, so I'm not going to consider pairing them with new soon to be new kilt.
I wish I believed in reincarnation. Where's Charles Martel when you need him?

I wear a pair(J Lobb) very much like that with the kilt on occasion. They work with the kilt well.

I think it's a nice looking shoe for the most part. I'm not a big tassel person on shoes. The other thing I refuse to buy is the composite soles (leather/rubber). They never seem to last as long as one or the other (I prefer leather).
Several reviews both here and on Zappos seem to say the same.

They look pretty good...and ya' can't go wrong with Florsheim. Years ago, when I worked for a large national corporation, when the sales guys and executives would come to Chicago for a meeting they would flock to a Florsheim shop and fly home with six pairs of shoes...back then they couldn't find them down in the South and the Southwest.
I think you've hit on a really good choice there.

Ghillies, while traditional, are greatly disliked by many of the "traditionalists" around these parts, so going with a more "multi-purpose" shoe is what I've done.
And if Jock has the same pair of shoes, you can rest assured that they're an excellent choice.

Similar, not the same.

A bit of advice
Those look very smart, and (as Jock says) will look well with a kilt. For a hundred bucks you can't loose, especially if you think of them in terms of "dressy" rather than the sort of shoe you'd wear kicking around the games.
Here's the advice part: When you buy them, get a pair of wooden shoe trees and cloth shoe bags to keep them in. Every time you take off the shoes, slip in the shoe trees. When you put the shoes away, put them in the shoe bags. And always polish your shoes before putting them away.
