Kilts and Costumes at the Sci-Fi Con
Over the weekend I attended the FenCon sci-fi convention in Dallas. Before we get to the photos, I'll say up front the title of this thread is a little misleading, because while there where at least 12 or 15 guys in kilts around the con, (all UK's or similar except for me and one other fellow) I didn't get pictures of any of them! No way to tell how many of those guys only donned their kilts while in the hotel, but a dozen or so kilties out of a crowd of about 650 is a pretty good number at a non-Celtic event.
Anyway, on to the photos....
The big theme for hall and contest costumes this year was Steam Punk, there where many, many SP themed costumes...honestly, I got a little tired of seeing them.
I'm not totally down on the Steam punk stuff, I thought this steam segway was really great!
But, you can still have a really nice costume without googles amd gears....

Agreed!
I may have to attend one of these events to really appreciate it for what it's all about!

Unfortunately, there is also the flip-side to these sorts of events

And TRUST me, this is the 'soft option' example...

Yeah, here's a guy from FenCon, the mask covers his beard. It's hard to be sure what merits to judge a guy in drag on...

I have to commend you on the decision to wear the kilt, rather than the costume of your namesake. Great pics, thanks.

I've seen people at these things dressed like Dr. Frankenfurter, so why not? The pony tail can make or break the whole thing...
