New Houndstooth Jacket
I've recently completed a conversion of an old Brooks Brother houndstooth jacket that I have worn for many years. It was great to repurpose my good friend for kilt duty.
And the obligatory Hamish-like pose.

That is one very nice jacket. It looks like it was custom made as a kilt jacket. Impecable.

Good work on the jacket but your expression in the "Hamish" pose is priceless!

Ditto.

As thescot said, the jacket looks custom made for kilts, not like a conversion. Fantastic!

What a FANTASTIC job on the jacket conversion - looks custom-made - and your entire
kit is very well put together. BRAVO !!

Thank you all for the generous comments. This conversion is the first "real" sewing I've done in years. I have done some costume making and a little bit of theater prop work, but nothing that needed to look good up close. Who knew that the construction of a well-made mens jacket was so architectural?
There is not a simple hem around the lapel edge, but rather a double hem (there's a name for it, I'm sure) with a facing. Then the whole thing blends into the lining. As for pockets, thank goodness they were patch pockets and easily relocated; however, as you can see, I did a poor job of matching the checks. I tried to sew it with pins only when I should have basted.
Still, I enjoyed the experience and am pleased with the outcome. The next one will be better, but I'm not ready to work up a business plan quite yet.
I think you win the prize for the all-time greatest kilt pic.
I was egged on by the photographer, the Lady O'Brian. I tripped right after this shot and her gleeful schadenfreude mirth made us both laugh.
