A Good Day to be Kilted
I spent all day kilted yesterday (from 5am to 11pm) and didn't have one negative experience. It was a grand day.
I wore a kilt in Elliot tartan (along with kilt jacket and tie) to work and received nothing but postive comments all day (usually I get at least one joking comment about wearing a skirt). I had several people say how much the liked the kilt. One woman talked to me about the tartan, another said she liked the hose and garters. A few just remarked "nice kilt" as they passed. And, I got a lot of smiles as people saw me.
After work I had class and again received several favorable comments from my classmates and my two professors. As I was leaving after class one woman told it was she liked the kilt but that I was going to get cold (it was in the low 50s and raining) and I said I was used to it. Actually, the weather reminded me of my visit to Skye in 2005 so I felt right at home, so to speak.
Next stop was the Battlefield Band concert. In the past there were usually two or three kilts in evidence but this year I was the only one. Again I received several "like your kilt" comments, and one woman complimented my sporran.
I should have taken a camera along but since I work in a building where cameras aren't allowed I didn't even think about until this morning.

Congratulations, Bill! I had my first kilt outing, last evening, with no comments at all. Oh, I take that back...went to a Mexican restaurant and the waiter, a Mexican, asked where I was from. At least he didn't ask about the bagpipes.
Sorry we won't get to hook up at the Irish Festival in MD. Have a good trip to NO.

I get that fairly often too. Just yesterday evening, as I was about to step outside in my kilt, one of my wife's friends told me "your knees are going to get cold!", as if I had no clue what I was wearing or what the weather was like outside.
Their hearts are usually in the right place, but sheesh! I think my new standard response to such unsolicited advice on being cold is going to be, "thanks, mother."

I have spent a couple of days in kilt. Trips to the zoo were interesting as the men seem to think that I am some sort of affront towards their manhood while the ladies wink and grin for the most part. Went to a pizza take out and got a "Nice kilt" from the cashier. I can only imagine the fun that I shall have when I get out of PV and into wool.

I kind of chuckle about the cold knees comments. I've been out in 0 degree weather with a brisk wind and been comfortable. I point out that I wear wool hose and that I have 24 feet of wool wrapped around my middle. I hardly notice the cold knees.

LOL! Did that last week!
Fall here on the Gulf coast is just summer MkII, it can be in the 50s in the morning, then get up to 90 by afternoon. It's when people make the transition from gripes about how hot it is all the time, to gripes about how 'cold' it is in the morning.
At the renfaire last weekend, it was about 60 degrees in the morning, heading to about 85 by lunchtime. I was grumbling that I wished it would be cooler! But this fellow in jeans and a hoodie with his hands stuffed in his pockets like he's freezing asks me "aren't you cold in that?" in a real condescending way. I just said "No, I've got like 21 feet of wool wrapped around my butt, how are those jeans treating you?"

One of my funniest encounters was last winter. I was in our building cafeteria and a woman asked me "Aren't you cold from the draft?" I smiled and replied, "You're wearing a dress, so what do you think?" After a brief startled moment, she laughed and said something like "That was a stupid question to ask wasn't it?"

I love the temperature comments! They always make me chuckle. In the summer, people ask me "Aren't you hot in that?" In the winter, it's always "Aren't you freezing in that?" MAKE UP YOUR MINDS, PEOPLE!! Am I roasting or freezing?!?!
...I'm so confused...

Imho....
It's always a good day to be kilted; however; some days are better than others.
