    Old School kilting

Some of you may not appreciate this as much as others but I had to put it up here. I don't normally watch wrestling but I happened to catch an ad that tonight was Old School night for the WWE (former WWF) wrestling show. A lot of wrestling stars from back when I was a kid were there. There was only one entertainer on the show that I felt warranted an honorable mention and that was Rowdy Rody Piper. I realize to some he may not be the optimum person to represent kilt wearing men in America but for a lot of people he is the biggest name in a kilt. His tartan may not even be historically accurate but he still proudly displayed his kilt.....with stockings, flash, and sporran. I thought it was worth a mention.

I loved Rowdy Roddy Piper...I remember when he was wrestling in the Pacific NW (long before his days with the WWF). It's been a looong time since I've watched "pro wrestling" (I'm more of an MMA kind of guy) but thinking of Piper's Pit back in the 80's brings back some fond memories

I was never really a big wrestling fan but Rowdy Roddy is one of my early kilt memories. I am a big John Carpenter fan and immediately think of the classic movie They Live in which Rowdy Roddy stars.

LOL "They Live" was on the other night, I couldn't help myself I had to watch it again. I almost got lactose intolerance from how cheesey it was! My favourite line from it was from Roddy, " I'm here to kick a@# and chew bubble gum, and I'm all out of bubble gum!" Priceless.

My father knows a man named Jack who used to run a moving business. One night Jack happened to be in a city where a pro wrestling (rasslin', if you learned to talk where I did) match was to be held, and he went to see it. Wahoo McDaniel was rasslin' somebody else, and got his leg broken. The medics toted him out on a stretcher, and in his thrashing around he fell off the stretcher. A few days later, Jack was in a different city, and a match was to be held, so he went to see it. Who should be in the competition but Wahoo McDaniel again, who broke the same leg again, but this time fell off the other side of the stretcher.

I was at the Va State Bowling tournament several years back. We just happened to stay at the same motel with the professional wrestlers who were in town for a "show". At that time, the Iron Sheik and Sergeant Slaughter were sworn enemies in the ring. After we bowled Saturday afternoon, myself and two of my team members stopped in the hotel bar for a drink before going out for supper. Who should be there, drinking together and having a good time but the Sarge and The Sheik. It's all a show, but it was, back then, a good show, and Roddy Piper was one of the best.

I did rigging and lighting for WCW for a long time, and it was pretty funny
seeing the guys all eating lunch together at the Chinese restaurant
together on days with no shows after all the yelling at the shows. The
funniest part was shooting the commercials, as whoever was screaming
about tearing some guy apart, the threatened party was frequently just
out of camera range saying "Do it again, man, and this time sound meaner.
    I didn't believe that take".
