    Kiltie on STV News

I was watching an STV (Scotlandon TV) News broadcast from last Thursday about the snow storm that hit Aberdeenshire, and noted at 2:40 into the broadcast we see someone from the waist down trudging thru the snow in his wellies while wearing a kilt. You can even see his Sgian Dubh sticking out of the top of his wellies!

Can anybody pick out what tartan he is wearing?

You can view the clip here.

If it was in Insch (as the broadcast stated) I know a certain full time kilt wearer who works in a signal box there.

That is BeechBrae but he hasn't visited these forums since July.

But I would place a good bet that it was he!

Trouble is when you pause the broadcast the picture goes dark

However you can see his kilts in his album here - http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/m...ted-signaller/

A couple of them could be candidates.

definately looks like John, and on that basis the tartan is Macfarlane, as it's the only one he wears!I'll ask him later today!

Yes that's our very own and my good friend John wearing his ancient hunting reproduction MacFarlane a heavyweight winter kilt,on his way to or from work in the signal box at Insch Station. (seen in the opening shots ) He has a long walk to the main road from home as his Lane is blocked with snowdrifts. He's always kilted throughout the year as you see... a bit of snow makes no difference to him! Just called him on the phone and he confirmed it was him last week when the snow first fell.

That's incredible. Not only is the tartan identified, but the wearer too. Well done!

Well to be fair, the clues were:
Insch - signal box - Macfarlane kilt
So it was actually fairly easy!!
(It's hard to hide in a kilt, although I know that Schiehallion and I do chat to John outside xmarks)

That it was easy for you makes it not less impressive, but more so. Kudos again.

Indeed! It was like watching my namesake in action!

Thanks for the wee bit of detective work.
