Would reccomend a Utilikilt Survival II kilt for "free hiking" since it has the pockets to put your gear in hiking from the parking lot to wherever you're going to be enjoying your recreation.
If you're just gonna be hiking without a destination for recreation then the wrap around "kilt" from SportKilt will do.

"I'll have a kilt please, a nice hand sewn tartan, 16 ounce Strome. Oh, and a sporran on the side, with a strap please."
