    Kilted at Christmas Eve church service

    I am fairly new to the kilted community. I've worn my kilt to several kirking services associated with Highland events, but not to any other church services. We attend a United Methodist Church and have a really special Christmas Eve service. Since this is a special service, I am planning to go kilted. I will probably wear a charcoal tweed Argyle jacket and vest, but may wear my PC. Here is my question: does anyone know if folks in Scotland ever wear kilts to special church services (other than weddings, of course)?

    Mark;
    I don't know about it in Scotland, but I used to attend a methodist church and have worn my kilt on several occassions. I received no adverse comments and several very positive ones.
    I still wear it my current non-denominational church with the same response. I was even asked this morning if I would be wearing it next Sunday for our Christmas service.

    I'm not sure that you'll get much reassurance from what people do in Scotland...

    Mark, I think you'll be perfectly fine wearing a kilt to church. I wear mine regularly and do receive some looks, but good comments, also. I'd not wear, though, a PC....just go with the Argyll. Best wishes.

    I wear my kilt to church every Sunday at my Episcopal congregation. The only time I have gotten questions was the one Sunday last year that I DIDN'T wear it.

    PC to a church service? The PC is the equivalent of a tuxedo, right? If you wouldn't wear a tuxedo to an evening church service, then the PC probably isn't right for it either. I'd stick with the Argyll jacket/vest (maybe even forgo the vest).

    Good point. I will go with the tweed Argyle. Since it will be cold, I'll undoubtedly also wear the vest if for no other reason than for warmth.

    I'm not in Scotland, but I wear my kilt to my wife's family dinner on Christmas Eve (they are Polish) then to Midnight Mass every year. People look for me in it now.
    It is very appropriate.

    In the not long past the only times you ever saw a kilt in Scotland were at games, weddings or in church, or if the wearer was a Highland outfitter or a raving nat. Today, the first four are still correct. It's the nats who have mostly decided to wear California miners' gear

    As Tobus said, wear your Argyll (and vest) to church. That's what is worn in the Highlands of a Sunday today.
