    Hello from Tyneside

Thanks to a Google search I found this forum. Although I come from England I've been fascinated with the kilt ever since I was a youngster. I think the kilt is a sensible garment to wear, far better than trousers or shorts as it gives you true freedom of the legs.

Mum hired a kilt for me for a wedding when I was 10. At first I didn't want to wear it as I felt it would make me look like a sissy. After some blackmail and much cajoling I had to accept the inevitable and bow to the pressure.

The day before the wedding Mum suggested that I wore the kilt in the house so as to get used to it. I was really surprised how I took to wearing it, I giggled a bit when I saw myself in the mirror. When I sat down Mum told me to keep my knees together and not cross them as I usually did, with the ankle of one leg resting on the knee of the other. If I did cross my legs then I had to cross them at the ankles.

On the day of the wedding I felt a bit self-conscious about going out in the kilt for the first time and I worried if some of my friends saw me wearing the it. But God was kind to me and not one boy was out on the street. At the wedding I became the object of much attention and I lavished in it. The following day I asked if I could wear the kilt, but Mum said she had packed it up ready to return it to where she hired it.

For years the wearing of that kilt had to remain a memory and I wanted have one of my own to wear. When I was 17 as a reward for getting my A-levels, my parents clubbed together and bout me my very first kilt. I took much pleasure at wearing it at my graduation when I got my degree at university.
I've since found out that I can wear the Gordon and Macintosh tartans as my surname is a sept of those clans.

So here I am and thank you for having me.
