For Valentine's Day, Ballet Austin is presenting La Sylphide, an 1832 ballet about the tragic romance between James Ruben, a young Scotsman, and a Sylph or Wood Sprite. The Lady Barbara has high hopes that we will go.
If you scroll down the Ballet Austin website you will find a history of the ballet, a synopsis of the story, and a video performance by the Estonian National Opera which shows the kilt a-swirling and is very good; however, if you ever wondered what all the big deal was about Rudolf Nureyev go to about 4:50 in this performance with Carla Fracci:
you can see why the kilt can be such a pleasure to wear when you watch how good it looks on someone like Nureyev. He turns wearing the kilt into an art form- excellent
It may be an optical illusion, but the kilt looks a little short on Nureyev, maybe it's because the (white) hose don't look long enough...
But excellently danced nonetheless.

Fantastic dancing and yes the kilt looks so good. I have seen this ballet many times but never the male lead kilted!
Sir, I bet you were thinking, like me when I heard the title, of LES Sylphides. Les Sylphides is a somewhat more famous ballet with music by Frédéric Chopin.
Here is Mikhail Baryshnikov and Marianna Tcherkassky dancing the Waltz from Les Sylphides:
La Sylphide...............with ..........Mathieu Ganio, Aurelie Dupont
The lead dancer is ...............Mathieu Ganio
Nueryev version although brilliant looks outdated a bit like " Brig a Doon ", compared to this
Yes, I agree that Mathieu Ganio of the Paris Opera Ballet is superb, but now I call your Mathieu Ganio and raise you a very young Herman Cornejo of the American Ballet Theater dancing with his sister! This kid is Air Jordan!
