    This made me laugh...

What is it about this picture that I find so very, very funny?

As a beginner on the pipes myself, I think I understand what the Bloke with the Kukri is thinking...

"Should I put the puir thing outa its misery?"

Not sure if he'd be thinking of the pipes or the piper.

    ..or himself.

Looks like a Burns night for the Ghurkas.

My Dad was a POW in Germany with Ghurkas, and according to his stories, someone (or animal) has to bleed on the blade since it's been drawn. I know which way I'd vote.

I thought MY music teacher was demanding!
He just yelled at me with a German accent about taking a "flammenwerfer" to my trumpet. I don't speak German, but I gathered that it werfs flammen. That's probably bad, but in German anything can sound pretty threatening..
The grass is greener on the other side of the fence...and it's usually greenest right above the septic tank.

Your teacher wanted to take a flamethrower to your trumpet? Were you trying to play 'cool' jazz when he wanted you to play 'hot'?

My neighbors, when growing up learning to play trumpet, would call or come over and tell my mom to close all the windows in the house. I took to practicing in the basement with my mute in all the time. If they would have come bearing weapons, I'd probably stopped learning

A Sikh friend of mine confirmed the cutting requirement. He told me that even when the blade is drawn to sharpen the kukri blade the ghurka usually knicks himself (on purpose, I mean).
