Pith Helmets
Okay, I was doing a search for safari/bush hats, when I came across a company that was selling three different styles of authentic pith helmets. Knowing that some of the rabble likes this style style of headwear, I thought I'd post photos & links in a new thread.
Cheers!
ith:
Bengal Pith Helmet
Made of Genuine Cork Pith in the Original Style and shape used by the British in their Manoevers around Bengal and India. This is the real Thing. Genuine Cork Pith covered in 100% Cotton Drill Fabric. Many of the Original moulds are used to make these Pith Helmets.
Livingstone Pith Helmet
Livingstone Pith Helmet, as worn by Doctor David Livingstone during his expedtions into the dark continent. Made of genuine cork pith, covered with 100% cotton. Britiish colonial forces soaked them in the river to keep cool as they marched to conquer the interior. Bring back some of the nostalgia of Old Africa. Use these pith helmets to decorate your trophy room, or share a cigar with your friends while showing off your mounts as your play the role of "Great White Hunter"
Cavalry Pith Helmet
The British Cavalry used this hat in various forms in its North African Manoevers, and the pointed back shape it proved efficient in protecting against being struck on the back of the head. The British South Africa Company used a Similar one, and so did the German Army in Africa. Made from Real Cork Pith covered in Cotton Twill, this hat was often "Dunked" in water, before wearing, to create an Evaporation effect for cooling the wearer. Great Addition to any Trophy Room.

All three helmets are available in one of four colours: Forest, Khaki, Olive, & Stone.
(the cavalry pith helmet is available in 3 colours).

Although, I need a deerstalker with the way the cold wind is blowing tonight.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

Hmm... not sure about those guys....
I, for one, would be suspicious of a purveyor of pith helmets that didn't know the difference between "puttees" (which are wrapped around the lower leg), and a "puggree", (a light scarf which is wrapped around the crown of a helmet to protect the wearer from sword blows to the head). Just doesn't seem pukka to me.

I'm thinking about getting one. I'd never actually wear it. I'm more if an Indy Jones fedora kinda person. I wouldn't mnd one on the wall as a conversation piece though.
The grass is greener on the other side of the fence...and it's usually greenest right above the septic tank.

I've got one of these pith helmets although I don't wear it much it must be said:
And the issue slouch hat from these chaps (bottom right) has been on my wish-list for about four years, although there are some smashin' hats elsewhere on this site if you're into bush hats.

Nice!
One of my hopes is that others with good links (& photos), might include them here as well

I still have the Livingstone style I bought for an archaeologic dig in summer school. During the previous century.
I fondly recall dipping a helmet full of ice out of the cooler at the end of each day and putting the helmet back on. Shear bliss on the way to ice cold gin.
