    St. Practice Day

Have any of you heard of St. Practice Day? It is 1 month before St. Patric's Day so Feb 17. I know of some bars that do specials for it and I'm getting some friends together for an afternoon of golf, winding up at one of those bars for the 19th hole. It also seems like as good a reason as any to wear my kilt

My guess is bars don't need much of a reason to have a special and get people in the door, no complaints here

I thought this was going to have something to do with St Valentine's Day, when men get their once-a-year practice at being loving & caring spouses and boyfriends etc but then forget how to use it on birthdays and anniversaries....

Thanks, I needed another excuse for wearing the kilt, golfing, and drinking that I can use on the wife. Note to self---put in Blackberry calendar as recurring item.

As if I needed an excuse, but hey I'll use it.

Around here many bars also celebrate Half way to Saint Patrick's Day on September 17th. This and St. Practice Day are both commemorated by inviting the general public to part with their hard earned cash and drink overpriced beer while listening to vaguely Celtic music on a juke box.

Don't get me wrong any excuse (like we really need one) to wear a kilt is a good one, but for anyone who cynically thinks that St. Valentine's Day is dominated by the candy and greeting card companies, you surely must be even more cynical about a made up saint who's day is dominated by bar owners who want even more of our money than we will be giving them a month later.

Saying You Don't Like The Holiday Is Enough....

There IS a religous aspect to St. Patrick's Day and much like Christmas it often gets overlooked by commercialism. Some of us remember that this day also falls during Lent. Absolutely fine to not like the commercialism and the excesses, but let's not denigrate the man for whom this day is named.
