    Autism Awareness Kilt Pin

Some of you may know and some may not know, but in the US April is Autism Awareness month. 2 of my 3 boys fall onto the Autism spectrum and I have been looking for awhile to find something large enough and heavy enough to use as a kilt pin with one of the awareness symbols on it. Sadly I have really had no luck in this department, the only brooch I can seem to find is made out of ceramic and I just don't think that is going to work for a kilt pin. The only other options I seem to find are lapel pins and they are to small.

So my question for my fellow kiltwearers is do you have any ideas on how I might go about making one for myself or can you suggest someone who makes custom kilt pins that I might be able to talk to about having one made.

    Thanks in advance all.

Perhaps use the lapel pin and solder it to the military style pin?

Am sure there has to be some lapel or hat pin for the occasion. I would suggest wearing one of them as a kilt pin.
Being non traditional, I tend to wear pins that catch my fancy as kilt pins. gives me a huge selection to choose from.

Here's a medium-weird idea I'm just going to throw out there.

Do you have any sculpting skills of your own? There's this great polymer-based (I think) silver clay that, when baked, leaves behind only the silver in the shape you sculpted it. It's solid enough to make jewelry from; as in people sculpt rings and stuff like that out of it.

That plus some strong adhesive and a good size pin-back, you could make it yourself exactly the way you want it.

I have intermediate sculpting skills myself. I've been considering making myself a kilt pin in a similar way for a while.

The brooch in this brooch and earring set seems like it would be big enough - and your significant other gets earrings out of the deal, too!

Most jewellers can do custom casting in gold and silver, my experience is that they generally have someone they outsource carving the wax to...

Of course gold and silver are a lot more than they used to be, but if you have scrap you could probably offset the cost some...

Thanks for the replies all. I'll look into the clay as well as the brooch and earring set they look nice.
