Getting in and out of a truck with modesty

Just took my son to the Air Force Museum here in Dayton, Ohio and decided to wear my kilt to celebrate National Tartan Day. Realized as I was leaving that this is the first time I have driven on a kilted outing. Now I need suggestions from my fellow kilt wearers. I had some issues with trying to find a way to get into and out of my truck with no worries about loss of modesty. Thankfully, there was noone in direct view when I got into or out of the vehicle, but I was having trouble primarily with getting into the truck where I would have given a quick flash to anyone that happened to be standing beside me. It isn't one of the monsters you see on the road but it is tall enough that to get in my leg does lift past the point of horizontal to the ground

"first time I have driven on a kilted outing". What, do you walk everywhere ??

Seriously though, getting in and out of vehicles kilted just takes a little different 'technique' than when trousered. I find just sitting in sideways and then sliding around works for me. But it varies by vehicle as well, I know how I get into a tall truck is different from getting into my car, where the seat is like 10 inches off the ground.

Here's a thought: just put on a pair of black boxer shorts before you leave the house....drive to destination...get out of truck (carefully, even with the boxers on but NOT as carefully as you would if you were not wearing them)...proceed to men's room...remove boxers...carry on. Reverse procedure when it's time to leave.

No matter what you've heard, it's okay to wear something underneath and if it's going to be an issue, don't put yourself in the place where you find yourself actively worrying about stuff like this...just take precautions. If you feel like roughing it, take your chances. This is about enjoying wearing the kilt, not stressing yourself out.

I also drive a truck. A point to consider. Getting in and out, you're in the "V" between the body and the open door. Aint nobody gonna see nothing unless they are laying on the ground along side your vehicle. You're sweeping your pleats getting in and they should fall into place naturally as you exit. I just make sure my aprons are adjusted properly before I turn and close the door. I try to be circumspect; but if somebody wants to make an issue of it, they will have claimed to have seen something whether or not you are wearing anything under your kilt.

Exactly the way I go about getting in and out of vehicles

Am I that different? Getting in or out of lifted trucks I have my butt facing out, not my legs. I get on the nerf bar or door sill and put my legs under the steering wheel then slide the rest of me into place. Opposite getting out, slide rear out while feet are in vehicle, then climb down like I'm going down a ladder.

The only way you could see under the kilt is if you were lying on the floor with your head by the clutch... in which case you'd be seeing what's under the kilt anyway.

I've got to agree with the others...This is not such a big deal. Now what is a big deal is sitting on the pleats for an extended period of time while driving...That is what I lose sleep over.

I worry about that too, but perhaps needlessly. I don't have a lot of experience with sitting on my pleats for a long time. Any suggestions or "words from the wise" out there?

By the way, Jockey, Calvin Klein, et. al. make black underpants of varying lengths - from thong-size to bike-shorts. You can pretty much match the length to your modesty.

My wife says she caught Duncan McKay (of MOTG fame) wearing those a couple of times, like when he was throwing rocks in the loch and rolling down the hill where he discovered the Macintosh escape tunnel. I told her, "What are you doing looking there?!".
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

Actually this was my first non-group outing. One benefit of the truck is when getting together with a group people they rarely suggest I drive. I'll just have to practice I guess and when I think I've figured it out have some lucky soul watch me and see if they get an eyefull.

As far as wearing something under, I have when I go to events where I know there will be a lot of dancing, outdoor events on very windy days etc. Guess I just hadn't considered wearing them just for the drive and will probably do that next time.
