    New Regulation Doublet

Below are photos of a next to new Regulation Doublet that I picked up on ebay for a very good price. Thanks are given to MacLowlife who gave me the heads up re the auction

The doublet is very well made and thicker than the usual 15oz ones that are advertised on the cheaper sites. I am delighted with the quality and its first outing will be at the Tartans and Clans ball in Melbourne 5 May 2011

An excellent choice, and superb over-all look. But if I may, I hope you won't mind if I make a wee suggestion or three?

You might want to consider having a tailor shorten the sleeves, which should come to the wrist (about a finger's width above the top of your thumb) rather than hanging to the knuckles. While he's at it, you might also ask him to remove the buttons from the left and right breast of the jacket, and re-set three of them below the lapel on the right hand side. Opposite these buttons he should set three button holes, which will give your jacket a more bespoke look. Finally, if there aren't any, have him put pockets under the left and right flaps of the jacket. I have all my doublets made this way and it is amazing how handy these two wee pockets are for things like tickets, cards, car keys, folding money to tip the valet who parks my car, etc.

Your sporran, by the way, is absolutely first class. Well done!

    Absolutely outstanding! Well done!

Rathdown's suggestions are good ones, but really you'd pass muster at any Highland ball!

    You wear it well

I agree about the sleeves, but it looks great on you otherwise...

Looking sharp Downunder! I checked out that doublet on eBay as well, but alas it was too big for me.

What can you tell us about your shoes?

The shoes are from Jas Townsend as are the Buckles, they are straight lasted and you need to wear them a bit to mould them to your feet. I have worn them for about 2 years to functions(weddings, balls, parties etc) and they are comfortable. They are heavy compared to dancing pumps and I had a rubber heal plate put on them as the sole and heal are leather when they come from the store. The buckles are working buckles and are brass. I also have another pair of buckles in white bronze, called the Great Scot, which I purchased from a re-enactors online store in the US.

Nice looking doublet. Definitely better looking than a PC.

I agree with MoR, when you have the time, the sleeves could be shortened a bit. His other suggestions make good sense as well.

Look forward to seeing the photos of the Tartans and Clans ball.

Nice! It's a good feeling to bag a great deal on ebay. Almost an addiction in itself.
