Kilt to prom on Glee tonight in prime time!
This is discussed in another thread titled "Kilt in Prime Time", but the title needed to be more specific and descriptive, so I started a new post/thread. Yes, a couple months ago Glee contacted us and purchased a full Prince Charlie outfit with 2 kilts, one Black Watch, and the other Royal Stewart. They chose to use the Black Watch kilt for the show. I hope it turns out well, and that the outfit of our heritage gets its proper respect, and is properly portrayed. Kurt is the character wearing the kilt. I hope it gets prom goers across the world to think about wearing kilts! What could be more manly? If you doubt that, just watch Braveheart a few more times! ;-)

The Kurt Hummel character is quite the fashion plate, and groundbreaking as the first high school aged openly gay character in primetime (forgive me if I am mistaken here, which has been known to happen) but....I'm not sure manly is an adjective I'd use to describe him. Trendsetter, definitely. Manly...not so much.
I'm also a little worried, as the promos looked to me as though he wore pants underneath, and it looked as if the kilt had been altered somehow from a traditional garment to something pleated all the way around, more like a skirt.

I agree. Manly is not the first word to come to mind when it comes to that charecter. However, I must admit, one of the first words that comes to mind with that charecter does definitely go with kilt-wearing (and is generally a requirement) - confident

This just gives us (the kilt wearing community) more “wingspan”. From the “fashionable trend setters” to the “gnarly manly men”.

Glee... a gay kid... wearing a kilt pleated all the way around like a skirt. Makes me think of that episode of iCarly where Scotland The Brave was renamed Haggis In Moonlight, played terribly, and used as a method of torture, with the torturer wearing full PC rig and made out to be absolutely ridiculous. Joy... Maybe a miracle will happen, though, and they actually will treat our traditions with a little respect. That would be nice...

OK, I've never actually seen a whole episode of that show. But I'm not that jazzed about what seems to be the most stereotypically fem gay character on it wearing a kilt.
Now I know we have gay members here, and I don't care about anyone's orientation as long as they want to kilt up, and I'm all for getting prom attendees to think about wearing kilts, but whatever the Kurt character does is characterized as 'gay' in that show, and he'll be the only one in a kilt.

But did he have to wear boots with it?

So...the kilt was tartan, Kurt wore a Charlie and boots with it and he looked great.

I just saw the episode. I'm saying the kilt was quality, no "pleats all around" and that Kurt wore it well. *LOVED* the music, but the plot was a bit melodramatic. But then, it's Glee. I'm daring Puck, Finn, or Will to "man up" and don the kilt outfit for the next prom episode!
