What say thee? Kilted on Norway's Independence Day?
I can't quite make up my mind, and turn to the rabble for help..
Should I kilt up on Norway's Independence Day tomorrow or should I don my regular suit? Unfortunately the only kilt-jacket I got is a PC, so kilted I'll simply be sporting a shirt and tie (maybe a simple knit west or something as well).
What would the Rabble recommend? Kilt up or suit down?

Well, given that fact that I don't actually own more than 2 pairs of pants, neither of which is appropriate for going out in public, I have say kilt. Norwegian independence is as good a reason as any! Personally, the way I see it, if I'm still breathing, it's a good excuse.

You come to a kilt forum asking if you should wear a kilt so what you're really looking for is justification. Let me enable you. If you don't wear your kit you're a ninny!

I only ever wear MY Kilt on days that have a "Y" in them! Norway's Independence Day has two Y's in it. That's not to say you should wear two Kilts... at the same time.

I'd have said "nišingr" myself. . .
Not because I think you should wear it on the holiday because it IS one, but simply because there is no day where the kilt is not appropriate.
If you're thinking of wearing it "because of" the particular day, I'm afraid I have to agree with Jock.

Other Norwegian kilt wearers have avowed that the Bunad goes well with a kilt!
However you decide...

Yeah, that was quite close to the answer I was looking for... The only thing I'm a bit worried about though, is that the kilt will in some way stand out negatively against all the Norwegian national costumes on this, for us, the very most Norwegian day of them all..

Check out this thread from your countryman Oddern. One of the guests at this event is wearing a bunad jacket with his kilt. Why not have the best of both worlds?
