blue and yellow tartan??

hey folks some of you may know that i have been browsing kilts for my upcoming wedding but I was also looking into some different kilt options for more every day wear. And back home in MA i compete in demolition derbies with some friends of mine and our race colors are blue and yellow. now i was wondering if any one knew of a tartan that was primarily blue and yellow? I think it would be great to support my fellow drivers if I was sporting a kilt of the like colors.

i did find one here but i think its a custom and probably not available any where else.

You might give the following a look, though I suspect most, if not all, of them require custom weaving.

There's always the XMarks tartan featured on this very forum -- perhaps not as predominantly yellow as you wish, but a lovely tartan and available "off the peg" from the forum owner!

Here's the University of California Riverside (Highlanders) tartan, as worn by their pipe band



The tartan is quite lovely and striking in person: the blue is amazingly vivid. The designer(s) did a great job with the colours, adjusting the blue and "gold" so that they do not become green when intermingled in the sett (as blue and yellow tend to do).

That tartan would be better if pleated to the sett- as you can see the pipe band's kilts are pleated to the "gold" and look mustard yellow across the back.

The Scottish Weaver in Charlotte NC did a run of the UNCG tartan in 11 oz. When I inquired a few months ago, they had one three-yard and one six-yard piece in stock. I didn't try to obtain it because of the light weight (I was wanting it for a 4-yd box pleat), but the longer piece could be made into an 8-yarder suitable for summer wear.

The Morris of Wales tartan is primarily blue and yellow and, like most of the recent Welsh tartans, has different patterns in the warp and weft.

On the Scottish Register of Tartans website (and most elsewhere) the wide yellow stripes are shown running horizontal. However, the Celtic Croft website has a photograph of a man wearing a Morris of Wales kilt outfit with the wide yellow stripes running vertical.

Another blue-and-yellow tartan (though with more black than yellow) is the Elgin City Band tartan. I'm not sure how available it is, but it's woven by Johnstons of Elgin.

The swatches often are sideways which can be an isse for the Welsh tartans. The dominant stripes in the cloth run VERITCALLY, not horizontally on a finished kilt.

I recently remembered another blue and yellow (and black) tartan: Kazakhstan Relic. The good news is that it's apparently roughly 4000 years old, so you won't have to worry about copyright restrictions. The bad news is that it would most likely require a custom weave.
