Loccharron's Holyrood Tartan - Available in Strome?

Hi all,

here's a bit of a puzzler.

When searching the web for the Holyrood tartan, I can pull up Loccharron's site that shows it listed as available in Strome (16oz) HERE

However, if you click the online store and attempt to buy it, the tartan is only listed in the light and medium weights. Shown HERE.


I know websites aren't always the most up-to-date.

So do any of our kilt makers (and tartan yardage buyers) know which is the case?

Worst case I'll just contact the weavers, but I thought I'd toss it out to our resident experts first.

I don't know the answer either without checking, but if not it's also available from Marton Mills Holyrood tartan
Of course the Strome would be my first choice as well, but MM tartan isn't bad and it's a lot less expensive!

Well Artificer,
Heritage of Scotland has the most extensive tartan listing that I know of, and they only show Lochcarron Holyrood available in 10 and 13 oz. And for what it's worth, it's about 20GBPs less per yard than the Lochcarron store. (35 GBP per double width yard compared to 55GBP at Lochcarron's "The Tartan Site")

They also have Marton Mills 16 oz. at about 31GBP per double width yard.

Scotweb lists 21 different fabrics in four different color variations.

The heaviest weight I see is the 15oz "Golden Jubilee II" pattern at $60/ meter, from the mysterious "glena" mill.

"glena" is Scotweb's indication that it's a custom weave. Ask, and you may get Dalgliesh (see recent posts from Nick). Be aware that this is single-width!

The original Holyrood commemorated Queen Elizabeth's silver jubilee. This variation, with more of the "dark gold" color, was a follow-on for the 2002 anniversary.

Lochcarron's online tartan listings have not been updated in a loooooong time! So there will be some inaccuracies there. Their retail site will be more accurate, or you can call any retailer who deals in Lochcarron's cloth for an up-to-date listing.

For what it's worth, I have compiled a list of ALL of the 16 oz (and 18oz) tartans available from Lochcarron, House of Edgar, and Dalgliesh, and listed them here.
It's accurate as of last year (so any changes the mills have made in 2011 won't show up).

NONE of them stock Holyrood in 16 oz. So it looks like a custom weave is your best bet.
