USA 5 yard wool kilts
Hello all!
I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on a USA kilts 5 yard wool in 13oz. It will be my first wool kilt. I've seen several posts from members praising their semi-trads from Rocky but I haven't seen any from people who have 5 yarders. So if you have a 5 yard wool kilt from Rocky let me know what you think of it.
Thanks,
Remy

Just to clarify, our 5 yarders are constructed the same way as our Semi trads... we just make them in wool, which opens up a world of options in different tartans. It's more expensive b/c of the cost of the wool vs. the cost of PV.

Rocky, for further clarification, isn't the semi-trad and the 5 yard wool both made the same as the premiere 8 yard just with less material?

I have two on "rush" order, one 16-oz and one 13. I'll let you know what I think when they arrive!

I am fortunate to have two of Rocky’s 5 yarders. For me they are the way to go for a traditional wool kilt. Very comfortable to wear, looks great and superbly made. I don’t miss sitting on the extra three yards or carrying it around, especially in the warmer weather. Let’s face it, the climate in Virginia is not exactly Scottish weather!

It's worth keeping in mind that "the standard" for the early tailored wool kilts -- in Scotland -- was around 4 yards.

It's like this. If Rocky says it or makes it, you can trust to it, while I, on the other hand, will lie to you about, oh, half the time.

Mael what is the weight of the 5 yrder that you have. I am a bit south of you in South Carolina, the temps right now are murder. Is that a summer kilt? or more of a fall wearing kilt?

Rocky made a 5 yarder for me in Dalgleish 16 oz. FitzPatrick Hunter this past winter, plus a skirt for my Girlfriend. It was a bit of a rush to get both done so we could get them in time to wear to a Burns weekend outing.
I goofed on my measurements (now, no more measuring during cocktail hour!). Rocky caught the mistake as soon as he saw the order, called me that morning and tackfully pointed out the error in my measuring skills.
Rocky got both done with time to spare and fit and finish were perfect.
As to the question of weight of my 5 yarder, it has a nice heavy feel to it when I pick it up, but I don't notice the weight at all while wearing it. Very comfortable. Just enough weight to feel the "swish factor" without feeling like I'm wearing alot of excess material.
I haven't had a chance to wear it in very warm weather yet, hope to soon, but I can say, back during the Burns Supper, when I went outside, it was below zero that night here in central NY and only my knees felt the cold !!!
