    Mustard-Coloured Tweed?

In my recent searches for unique articles of clothing, I came across a lovely mustard-coloured wool waistcoat with a black and red tattersall pattern. Sadly, it wasn't quite my size and had a few stains on the front that I wasn't sure would come out. The colours and pattern, however, have been on my mind of late and have been growing on me.

Because of this, I'd like to ask those "in the know" what they would think of a tweed jacket and waistcoat in a similar-looking tweed.

I used Scotweb's tartan designer to approximate the colours and pattern:

    So, what do you think?

if the "windowpane" is large enough, and the red/black a little subdued, I think it would be fantastic!

    Good work.

I think it would be sharp, especially give the right tartan.

For what it's worth, we can have that pattern custom woven for you in Harris Tweed. We can do the cloth for $75/yd, 5 yard minimum order (single width), or alternately have the cloth wove, and a jacket and waistcoat made, for $650 total delivered to your door.

If you are considering it, I'd jump on it now before the price of wool skyrockets.

Short version: the cost of raw wool has recently increased dramatically due to a combination of increased demand (from the Chinese market) and decreased supply (fewer sheep being raised for wool in the major wool producing countries, such as Australia and New Zealand).

The woolen mills in Scotland currently are producing off supplies of wool previously purchased but those will soon run out, and the mills will have to purchase their yarns at much higher prices, the inevitable result being that prices of woolen goods for the consumer will soon increase.

This means anything made from tartan, tweed, and yes even the cost of your woolen kilt hose is predicted to go up.

    Shop now folks.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone! The site of tweed samples has some lovely swatches!

Matt, it was with the custom-woven jacket in mind that I posted this thread. Sadly, it will be at least a couple of months before I will be able to "pull the trigger" on this one, so hopefully the price of wool won't skyrocket too much (though that's not looking likely at the moment).

I also recently registered my own tartan and emailed you about the possibility of doing the Harris tweed kilt, jacket, and waistcoat all in tartan with my tartan in mind.

I really have too many things on my "want list" for wool prices to be doing this!!

I think it would look great.

    Something like this maybe:

slightly different colours, but similar effect, I would imagine.

    Cheers,

    Michael
