Kilted Fortnight Scotland Holiday – 2011

Day 2 – 9/11

Day 1 was a travel day to Scotland. My flight left Richmond to Philadelphia to Glasgow. That evening I meet my tour guide, John and the other 45 travelers.

I had signed up for the trip last year when Matt Newsome posted about the Scottish Tartans Museum sponsorship of it.

Fellow traveler, Charles Coburn a Board Director of the Museum signed up for it. We agreed to share a room to avoid the single supplement charge. It would be great buddying up with Chuck, another kilt wearer. Chuck reserved his kilt for dinner wear and I will be kilted through out.

I’m wearing my USA Kilt semi-trad in Stewart Black. It was my workhorse and well suited for traveling. My sporran is my Thorfinn #80 perfectly suited for travel with it large carrying capacity.

Our first stop was Alloway to visit the Robert Burn’s cottage and museum.

Not been that far south for years. Camped in Galloway forest park about 30 years ago.
Excelent pictures.
Thanks for reminding me of this very picturesque part of Scotland. May get down that way next year.

Thanks for the great pics. Wish I was there. You have a great eye for photography. I had a camera slung over my shoulder for more than 20 years as a part of my work.

Leaving Alloway we traveled to England to visit the Carlisle Castle.
A fascinating tour of this historic site held through out history by Scots and English.

The inscription of the plaque is dated 1577 states the Castle is dependent on and serves the Crown.
