Green and Gold
OK onto Kilt number 2. Got back from Jo-Ann (had 50% off coupons) and will be using what I think is called duck canvas. Yes I am aware that it is stiff, but this will be a utility, abused kilt (football game tailgating/attendance, triathlons, tough mudder, etc). In the wash you go.
Hunter Green, and Gold (but I think it is called Duck yellow?)
Using my knowledge from kilt #1 (a poly/cotton mix grey plaid) and going to incorporate UK, AK, and other styles.
Will make it a narrow front (#1 was a wide front) D-rings, variants of cargo pockets.
I know the material will be tough to work with, IE especially at the wasit, but I will be using methods from a traditional kilt and may cut out some of the pleating from the fell area to reduce the thickness, and have a liner hand sewn in.

Re: Green and Gold
Good luck. Something to look out for with duck cloth is that it can wrinkle pretty badly at first. After a few washings...or 10...it will get softer.

Re: Green and Gold
thnx.. as I am doing this one on the sly (wife isn't a fan) I haven't done anything yet except wash it. I should have a good rundown sketch done up by tomorrow. @T-Bone, good to know about the duck cloth though, I sneak in some washes on the side once complete. Trying to get this done by OCT 22 as I have a triathlon (I race for USF as well) and I think it would be a sight to do the 5k in my bulls horns and green/gold kilt (I know, I know, not really the intended purpose of a kilt, but it is for this one... as well as the ren fair in NOV... though I can't decide if I want this kilt or my first one)

Good to see that you are going to be running in the Australian colours
On behalf of Australia I thank you

No worry about "intended purpose" here; we have several members that have done warrior dashes, half and full marathons, and the like while kilted. No reason not to mix things you enjoy whenever possible.

It would probably be wise to "sneak in a few washes" and dryings in the dryer before you sew up the kilt, to finish off any shrinking the fabric is going to do.

Re: Green and Gold
OK had some time tonight to finally do a rough rundown of what I am tentatively going to do.

I will also make a sporran similar to the pockets that will hang on the D-Rings. The funky looking thing just to the right of the OA is a link, clip of some sort to hold keys. Still debating on the pockets/color makeup of the pockets. And the center gold triangle is just to represent the inner pleat that will be gold on all the pleats. Belt loops are 3" but have yet to find a 3" belt (that is in a good, none wife hating price range, hehe).
Initial measurements:
W: 33.5 (so will round to 34
H: 39
Pleats: 10x 3"
Over Apron (OA): 9" and fairs out from fell to hem/selvege
Under Apron (UA): 15" because I like them a little larger I feel.
Under Pleat is 6" (dotted Line)
Pleats: 3" box cut
Inner pleat: 5.25' (std X-Kilt) but in gold (roughly)
Bottom left corner of OA will be a USF Logo/patch
Debating is I want D-rings over the pockets, might be over kill, but Might keep them for the beef look.
Pleas note, diag does not take into account the shortening of the waist compared to fell.
As wife hasn't left the house, I haven't had a chance to work on it.
But, another wash (2nd) will happen tonight. That should be good enough shrinkage (on HOT) for me to cut cloth.
