    Smile Preserve your whiskey!

Here is a very informative review of the different ways to prevent a loss in your long term stored whiskey's flavor and nose. I found it to be quite helpful.

    Re: Preserve your whiskey!

Several years ago I got a couple of caps that are used in conjunction with a home vacuum sealer that seems to work pretty well. Still seem to be holding a seal after several weeks between drinks. Think many of us have decanted before but, can honestly say I've never considered making my own blends.

    "Several weeks between drinks?"

You don't need caps; you need to drink more.

I dumped a bottle of scotch down the sink after the last time I tried having a few drinks several years back. However, it wasn't quality scotch, and I think I dumped a bottle of rum out too.

A small capful, better yet a tiny sip, would be all I would ever care for since that point.

    * Sorry, just brought back that memory for some reason. Carry on.

Sadly my budget doesn't allow me to drink my scotch on as regular basis as I would like. Well, not the good single malts at least. But, rest assured the time between is sufficiently lubricated with bourbon and beer.

Maybe he spends all his time making videos. You know, Jim: all theory and no practice.

    Re: Preserve your whiskey!

Once I open one, I don't think Mine last 2 weeks (the only one at home that enjoys it) whenever I get one. The youtube narrator (ralfy) talks about having opened a bottle "several months ago." HAHAHA that is way too long to hold onto a bottle, especially when my buds come over and see an open bottle. Though I only have one bottle at home at a time don't have the space to have a "collection" like he does, and nor will my wife allow me to have a nice "collection" either. But interesting tidbits, and now another info source for me to watch to burn time >.< curse you Hugh... like I don't have enough to do, I now have to look up the other 217 youtube videos.

All I can say is, I feel very sorry for you that don't appreciate the produce of Scotland known as whisky and for you that are not in a position to be able to purchase and enjoy some of the finer things in life.
I suggest you take a hard look at your expenses and cut down on some of the more frivolous purchases, such as food and shelter and go for the better whiskys. Kidding of course. You need shelter.

    Re: Preserve your whiskey!

It does remind me of the piper who asked the Laird for a single malt dram before playing to "preserve the pipe bag". He then proceeded to drain the glass. When the Laird questioned the drinking of the whisky instead of applying it to the pipe bag, the piper replied "Aye, but you have to blow it in!"
