    MacIsaac Kiltmakers, Cape Breton Island

    Hello to the great Rabble,

So, I was driving back to Halifax from visiting a buddy I grew up with who lives in Sydney, Cape Breton. I decided to take the more scenic road this time around and it led me right through a place called St. Peters, and I passed a huge sign on a shop for "MacIsaac Kiltmakers." I quickly turned into the first place to park, jumped out, and marched squarely to the shop door. But, it being Sunday, the shop was closed. I googled them and their website looks pretty good and has some good feedback on it.

I'm just wondering if anyone in the Rabble has ever dealt with them, and if you wouldn't mind commenting on the quality, craftsmanship, service, etc.

Everyone I know from CB is the best kind of person, so something tells me that these guys are going to be top notch. There is one article here on XMTS where a fellow, who is missing now, got a kilt from them and said it was good. I was just wondering if anyone else may have had similar experiences.

    Thanks in advance everyone!

    Slainte!

I live in Fredericton and have a kilt on order from Mac's. They have been wonderful to deal with throughout. They were recommended to me by members of the Fredericton Society of St. Andrews Pipe Band (I am a novice piping student) as outstanding kilt makers.

I have no dealings with MacIssac's personally but I have dealt with their Teacher. I have a 16oz, 8 yard handsewn Kilt, crafted by Carol Fitzherbert. Carol is a Kieth Kilt School graduate and went to live and work in Canada to teach the people at MacIssac's the art of Kilt making.

"Through a kiltmaker’s guild in Scotland, the MacIsaacs met Carol Fitzherbert, who agreed to come to Nova Scotia for one year. She stayed for nearly three."

If the quality of their kilts is anything like the craftsmanship of Carol's work, you're on a winner.

If the quality of their kilts is anything like the craftsmanship of Carol's work, you're on a winner.

Which makes them of the same schooling as Kathy Lare whom I have two kilts by, and of whom Riverkilt has about a zillion. So to add to what EB has said, if they are or the same skill as others who we know of with that pedigree, you are in good hands.

    Best of luck!

Re: MacIsaac Kiltmakers, Cape Breton Island

I purchased a kilt three or four years ago from them, as my youngest daughter told me that when she got married, she wanted me in a "red" kilt. So I ordered a "red kilt". Three weeks ago she walked down the aisle. It was a cowboy wedding. The groom and groomsmen had western hats, shirts, and boots, and the bride and bridesmaids all had on boots. I did get a lot of positive comments.

Quality of the product was first rate and I would not hesitate to deal with Mac again.
