Yes I was aware of this from elsewhere.
I am a big fan of her books and cannot understand why they have yet to be filmed, even given today's technology.
There were so many similarities to a Clan system if you look closely enough.
She has gone between.

Re: Dragons with folded wings....
Anne McCaffrey's books were a huge part of Carolyn's and my life when she was a little girl. We read the Pern books every night for many years, and the 5 stuffed dragons of various colors that I sewed for Carolyn one Xmas are still perched high on the beams in her room at home. I hope she has a little girl some day who will treasure them (and Anne's books) as much as Carolyn did when she was a girl.

Read the first half-dozen in the Dragon Rider series many years ago and have been meaning to go back and read the entire series.
Sorry to hear of her passing.

I read many of her books. We have lost a person who was connected to her roots and history. I offer my happy wishes for her in the Unfolding Universe.

It is truly a shame that so many good stories stay on paper while so many poor stories are filmed.
Please excuse the spelling errors. My IPhone is "helping" me.

I read the series when I was in junior high, and really enjoyed them.
Let all the drummers of Pern beat the tattoo.
Did you know Ms. McCaffery, M of R?

Yes, I knew that, but never thought to post it here. Thank you, Scott. I will always remember her for The Ship Who Sang as well as for the Pern series.

A sad day for literature.
Found the Pern series went on rather too long, but enjoyed what I read of her.

Annie and I were near neighbors for over twenty years, and I used to swim at her place almost every day. She was an amazing lady, and is sorely missed by her friends and legions of fans.
Back in the 90s Warner Brothers offered $1m for the rights to the Pern series (an offer that Anne would have been well advised to accept); unfortunately her "financial adviser" talked her out of it, and from this point on things became murky with the result that the proposed film never happened. Nor, in my opinion, is it likely to happen in the foreseeable future; I could be wrong, but it's my guess that James Cameron's film AVATAR has staked out the dragon riding turf, and that DRAGON RIDERS OF PERN will probably remain on the book shelf rather than soar across the big screen.
