The world wide web can be scary!

In preparation for my upcoming interview I decided to let my fingers do the walking and found more than I wanted to find. I googled the people who would be conducting my interview just to know how best to make my approach. Now if I were to share what I found with a simple search I could be labeled a stalker. It's scary what you can find.

Yes, it is scary. Through work, I have always been very aware of cyber security, but recently, it hit home that many people simply do not get it. Last week I was trying to expand my family tree following the line of my great grandmother's brother. I've never met any of his descendants, but I found names, addresses, telephone numbers, photographs (including children) of people who are no closer to me than 3rd cousins, 3 to 5 times removed. Having been the target of identity theft off and on for about 15 years, I am very concerned about what personal information can be found with little effort. There isn't much you can do about public record information about you, but I certainly would not post photographs of children on the internet on unsecured sites.

That might be because alot of us go to this site daily.
My friend makes websites for people and she said now when you go to certain sites, it will take you to parts of that site first; that based on your patterns of searching the internet on your OWN home computer. so a site you go to can pull up your past searches of other things.......

Google seems to be an expert at it. Since starting this kilt quest and doing lots of searches I am now seeing lots of paid ads for kilts and kilt related items when I visit sites with paid ads even if the site is totally unrelated to kilts.
