Scottish small boat designer
His name is Ian Oughtred. His boats are sort of a Highland take on the traditional Danish faering though several are pretty straight-ahead "All Scottish" from a historical standpoint.
I herewith endow you with some Oughtred boat pics. Tirrik....I'm torn between Tirrik and Elfyn as my favorite....
Elfyn

I love the lines of the Eun Mara Alan. She looks similar to the wooden yacht Mairi Ban my late grandpa kept at Balloch (Loch Lomond) during my childhood back in the 1970's.

Eun Mara is a lovely, lovely little cruising boat.
BTW, there's quite a bit of history behind the name "Mairi Ban"...might look that up, you might be surprised!

Thanks Alan, I hadn't realised that my grandpa's boat shared her name with one of Paddy Henderson Ltd of Glasgow's old sailing ships. My dad (the same grandpa's son) went to sea in 1956 as an apprentice (deck officer cadet) with Paddy Henderson (which eventually became part of the Ocean group umbrella with Blue Funnel Line, Glen Line, and Elder Dempster Lines). The irony is my grandpa had been a professional soldier who loved small boat sailing under sail, and my dad was a professional seafarer who disliked small sailing boats where he 'got his ar*e wet.'

Ha! My father, US Navy officer used two say that there are two utterly useless things which should never be aboard a small sailing vessel.
1. a horse
2. a Naval Officer
I think your grandpa and my dad would have shared a few laughs.

Re: Scottish small boat designer
Did you see the Narnia movie, "Voyage of the Dawn Treader"? Perhaps you remember the small boats that the crew took ashore when they visited the Pirates Den, and rowed to the borders of Aslans Country?
These are slightly modified Ian OUghtred designed Caledonia Yawls, without the sailing rigs, built by Denman Marine, in Australia.

Grant, hold on to your chair...
About 9 months ago, I checked our local Craigslist. There was an ad IN MY TOWN for someone who was GIVING AWAY her former husbands Acorn Dinghy, complete with sailing rig and trailer. You can bet I called on it, but it had already found a new owner.
ARRRRGGGGH.
