Argyll Hose
Where can I find some Argyll hose that don't cost a small fortune? I would love a pair but can't see shelling out more than I paid for my kilt for them. I have checked Scottish Tartan Gift Shop and Scotweb, but alas, too much for my budget.

The problem may not be that the hose are too expensive, but rather, your kilt was too cheap.
Dunadd Trading company, located at the footer of this page, typically has some of the best prices for quality kilt hose. I recently read that J Higgins may have some lower quality, and commensurately priced, Argyle, or perhaps it was diced hose. Give them a look too.
Best of luck!

For the record, I never said their prices were not fair, just out of my budget.

Thanks for the tip on J Higgins. They have dice hose for $60 which I can afford.

That's great! I'm glad it worked out.
You may also want to consider some of the fancy topped hose available from other vendors as well. They tend not to be as expensive as the full Argyles, and still add a bit of flair.
We look forward to the requisite photos when they arrive.

Re: Argyll Hose
Hmmm.... $140 for a pair of custom knit argyle hose to match your kilt (which is the price the STM Gift Shop sells them for) is about as inexpensive as you will find them.
I understand if that is still above your budget, though. You could possibly keep an eye out on Ebay, and in the "For Sale" section of this forum. You could get lucky and find a pair of hose for sale in your size, in colors that would work with your kilt.
In the meantime, though, there is nothing wrong with wearing solid colored hose with evening wear.
